Context

Peacebuilding is a complex endeavor. Different fields of expertise, including issues as diverse as security reform, democracy promotion, and economic development, have to be pooled and coordinated in order to make peacebuilding effective.

Organizations involved in peacebuilding primarily have expertise in specific areas and often lack a broader capacity to address the full range of needs in post and pre-conflict settings. Consequently, comprehensive strategies for peacebuilding require the participation of a coalition of actors. At the same time, larger international and intergovernmental organizations that have wider expertise often struggle to establish coordinated approaches dealing with competition and bureaucracy within and between themselves.

Therefore PeaceNexus focuses on the interfaces between peacebuilding-relevant fields by assisting in such areas as:

  • Identifying gaps and inconsistencies within or between agencies and actors;
  • Obtaining advice that goes beyond client’s normal core-business;
  • Reaching out to other actors that can complete in-house knowledge; and
  • Assisting parties to a conflict in connecting relevant actors and instruments for peace.
